Police in Hamilton now know the name of a woman whose identity was unknown for five days.

Her body was found in a stream after she lost control and came off her bicycle on a steep track in Edgecumbe Park in Whitiora.

Police say they have now been contacted by a family who believed the woman was a member of their whanau.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton says a positive identification has been made and relatives are being informed before her name is issued.

He says the woman was with family members on Saturday night and they became concerned when they did not heard from her later, so they contacted police.
