Owhiro Bay Beach is still closed to the public as a leak in a sewer has not yet been found.
The beach, on the capital's south coast, has been closed for almost a month after traces of the bacteria enterococci were found at levels likely to cause health problems.
Wellington City Council spokesperson Richard MacLean says patchy water quality readings are still being recorded and the beach will remain closed until the source of the contamination is found.
