A man whose car was cut into three pieces in a crash north of Gisborne, is now in a stable condition in hospital.
He has had orthopaedic surgery after his vehicle was struck by a fully-laden truck and trailer unit carrying grapes.
The accident happened on Friday night on State Highway Two at Waerengaahika, north of Gisborne.
A Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
