Calls for help from a man injured in a hit and run and robbery in central Hamilton were ignored, police say.

The 21 year old man was walking home at 11pm on Tuesday when he was hit by a vehicle.

The two occupants, believed to be a man and a woman are alleged to have demanded the man's wallet and backpack.

Police say the man has minor injuries. They say he managed to call police and call out for help, but this was ignored by passing motorists.

The police say the city was busier than normal due to a one day cricket match, and they are hoping someone may recall seeing the incident and come forward.
