Up to 14,000 people attended the 21st Wild Foods Festival on the South Island's West Coast on Saturday.
Huhu grubs and worm sushi were among the delicacies on offer at the event at Hokitika's Cass Square.
Pukeko was a controversial addition to the menu this year, with organisers saying they had been called "rednecks" for offering samples of the protected bird, but they said Fish and Game Council had authorised the cull.
The event organiser Mike Keenan said the festival was a fun filled day that went off with very few problems or alcohol related incidents.
The event is expected to pump $2 million into the local economy with people from as far away as Germany, Korea and the United Kingdom attending.
A heavy police presence will remain in the town on Saturday night.
