Fire contained at Hamilton boat building factory

6:00 pm on 14 March 2010

The Fire Service says a large fire at a boat building factory in an industrial suburb of Hamilton has been contained.

The Fire Service says it was called to Tristram Marine in The Boulevard in the suburb of Te Rapa just after 3pm.

Fire Service Waikato area commander Roy Breeze says four fire engines were still at the scene at 6pm.

He says a number of walls have been severely damaged and firefighters are uncertain if they will fall over.

But Mr Breeze says the fire is now controlled and there is no chance of it spreading.

He says it is not yet known what the cause is, but fire safety will be investigating.
