Scores of culture groups are attending a four-day secondary school cultural festival which started in south Auckland on Wednesday.

ASB Polyfest spokesman Dean Wilson told Waatea News that 208 culture groups from 65 schools will battle it out at the Manukau Sports Bowl.

In the first festival, hosted at Hillary College in 1976, just four schools took part.

Mr Wilson says breaking kapa haka into three divisions means all schools will have a chance, not just the strong performers.
