Auckland City Hospital 'copes well' as strike continues

2:56 pm on 28 March 2010

Auckland Hospital says its emergency department coped well on Saturday night, during the pay strike by radiographers, due to fewer people being admitted.

About 60 technicians who carry out MRI scans, CT scans and X-rays are involved in the action, which began on Friday and will end on Monday morning. Staff are completing scans in emergencies only.

Auckland's deputy chief medical officer Margaret Wilsher says there were a number of emergencies, many of them needing brain and chest CT scans.

She says the board has had good co-operation from the union representing striking staff.
