A police helicopter joined the search on Monday for a teenager feared drowned at Piha Beach in West Auckland.

Police say the boy was boogie boarding on Sunday afternoon when he disappeared.

Inflatable boats, the Westpac rescue helicopter, and a fixed wing plane were used to look for him but only his board was found.

Detective Sergeant Eugene Pickett says members of Piha's surf lifesaving club were also out searching the coastline on Monday.
