Principal pleased with college dress code

An Auckland school principal is defending a new dress code requiring teachers to wear more business-like clothes despite it upsetting some staff.

Aorere College principal Patrick Drumm says 98% of teachers support dressing professionally.

However, Mr Drumm says the policy, which encourages men to wear ties at the decile 2 Papatoetoe school, is also pragmatic; with physical education teachers designing their own polo shirts.

Mr Drumm says students have been pulling up their socks after seeing their teachers dress more formally, as it provides an example of taking pride in appearances.
