A fire crew has dampened down the ruins of a second-hand store in Marton, following a fire early on Tuesday.

Four appliances from Marton and Bulls responded to the fire at 2.10am. It took 45 minutes for crews to bring the fire under control, and its cause will be investigated.

Meanwhile, firefighters put out a blaze at New Zealand's largest cemetery.

The Fire Service says crews were called out shortly after 7pm on Monday to control the four-hectare fire in scrub and bush at Waikumete Cemetery in West Auckland.
