An arrest has been made following what police describe as a savage attack on a young couple in an Auckland park.
A 19-year-old man and his partner, aged 17, were left fighting for their lives after the beating at Starling Park in West Auckland earlier in March.
Police say an unemployed 25-year-old man will appear in Waitakere District Court on Tuesday facing three charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one of aggravated robbery.
A police spokesperson, Kevin Loughlin, says the woman has undergone two surgeries totalling 12 hours and faces the prospect of further operations. Her partner has now been discharged from hospital.
Police say they have not ruled out further charges.
