Health Minister Tony Ryall says Otago District Health Board chairman Errol Millar will head the new Southern DHB when it is launched in May.
Mr Ryall approved the merger of Otago and Southland DHBs in February, with the Southern DHB to come into existence on 1 May.
Mr Ryall says Mr Millar will be its chair with Southland DHB chair Paul Menzies deputy.
The new DHB will also have a Crown monitor, Southland DHB Crown monitor Stuart McLauchlan.
