A man has been arrested after 11 motorists reported he was driving erratically and at speeds of to 170 km/h north of Auckland, police say.
They say the man had been drinking and refused to stop, sparking a short pursuit which was abandoned when he reached speeds of 110 km/h and started overtaking cars.
The driver evaded two sets of road-spikes, police say, and was observed by the police helicopter as having several near misses with other motorists on State Highway 17 at Orewa on Friday afternoon.
The man was eventually arrested after pulling in to a private property and will appear in court on Tuesday.
