Police investigate if attempted robbery linked to other crimes

6:14 pm on 7 April 2010

An attempted robbery at a bank in South Auckland may be linked to series of other aggravated incidents.

The robbery attempt was at a bank in Manukau about 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Four men parked outside the PSIS branch on Ronwood Avenue in a stolen car, and two tried to enter the bank through a series of double doors. They were stopped by the second set of locked doors.

The men then left in the stolen Nissan Maxima, which was later found nearby.

Police have been trying to catch an armed group they believe is responsible for robbing banks, cash-carrying vehicles, a jewellery store and two houses.

It is thought there are as many as five or six men in the group. One person has been arrested to date.
