An occupational therapist in Auckland must pay more than $3000 for having worked without an annual practising certificate for four years.

The Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal says the woman, whose name is suppressed, faced health problems, bankruptcy and the death of a partner.

She continued working, earning about $60,000 per year.

She has been censured, fined with costs, and must work under supervision.

The tribunal says professional discipline is important to protect the public.
