6:30 pm on 22 April 2010

A motorcycle pillion passenger has been injured after a police chase in Hamilton.

The incident began at 4.30am on Thursday when officers saw two people on a motorbike doing a wheel stand. The rider then took off and a pursuit began.

Police say the bike reached speeds of 70km/h to 100km/h and the officers lost sight of them.

A short time later, the motorbike was found to have crashed into a wooden fence and the pillion passenger was lying injured nearby.

He was taken to Waikato Hospital for treatment to minor injuries and his colleague was arrested.

At least three other police chases have resulted in injury or death in the Waikato region in the past month.
