A public meeting is being held over the Kapiti Coast District Council telling market food vendors they must prepare their wares in registered kitchens.
The meeting on Friday afternoon will discuss concerns of food stall holders at the twice-monthly Otaki Women's Community Club craft market.
The council wants market vendors to be more accountable for the jams and cakes they sell to ensure public safety.
It has ruled that all market vendors need to prepare their foods in registered kitchens, except where all the proceeds go to charity.
But the Otaki market's co-ordinator, Sherryl Gray, says the cost of setting up a commercial kitchen is prohibitive and fears the rules could affect the future viability of its market.
