Joint complaint from provinces about high air fares

9:39 pm on 26 April 2010

Provincial centres are joining forces to protest at what they say are high regional fares with Air New Zealand.

Manawatu Chamber of Commerce is to meet the airline on 4 May and says business people are fed up with expensive fares.

It says businesses in Taranaki, Wairarapa, Whanganui and Hawke's Bay support its protest.

Palmerston North Mayor Jono Naylor says a joint approach by provincial leaders is possible.

Air New Zealand has responded to complaints about fares by saying some provincial airport landing charges have risen dramatically and that has added to costs.
