DIY coffin course

6:02 pm on 3 May 2010

A retired Rotorua nurse who wanted to make her own coffin is now helping other people do the same.

Katie Williams, 71, came up with the idea so she could show her family how she wants to be remembered.

She told the University of the Third Age, a club for retired or semi-retired people, about her plan and the group was enthusiastic.

With the help of a friend who made a kitset for them, the group is to start coffin-making classes on Tuesday.

With the coffins costing about $100 instead of $3000 to make, Ms Williams says the class is going to be very popular.
