Fire gutted a house in eastern Bay of Plenty on Monday afternoon and the fire service says one person is missing.
A northern fire service spokesperson says neighbours and occupants of the house at Waihau Bay raised the alarm at about 3.10pm.
The service says some people returned to the house to find it on fire and reported one person missing.
The fire is under control but the house is almost completely gutted and is expected to collapse.
