Record number ride Auckland rail services

A record number of passengers used commuter rail services in the Auckland region in March.

More than 900,000 passengers used trains, the Auckland Regional Transport Authority says - more than 14% higher than a year earlier.

But the reliability of train services during a major upgrade of the suburban network continued to be a problem, the authority says, with just two-thirds of services running on time.

The authority says public transport usage as a whole is up by just over 2%, with the strongest growth - nearly 19% - in bus services using the dedicated busway on the North Shore.
