Firefighters were putting out a blaze at Aranui High School in Christchurch on Saturday night.
The Fire Service says the alarm was raised at about 9.20pm.
Two fire trucks were at the school, where flames have damaged the outside wall of a classroom.
The police and fire safety investigators were on their way to the scene.
