Police have arrested a man in relation to a stabbing in the town of Dannevirke in Hawke's Bay at the weekend.

Emergency services arrived at the house on Dublin Street at about 1am on Sunday, after receiving a 111 call.

Police later found a man, 22, with abdominal wounds inflicted during a domestic incident between two men living at the address.

He is in Palmerston North hospital, which lists his condition as satisfactory.

A man, 25, will face an assault charge in the Palmerston North District Court on Monday. Police say it's likely that more serious charges will follow.
