A man has been charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to the discovery of a burnt-out car that police say was used in a fatal accident near Oamaru last week.

Eighteen-year-old motorcyclist Tom Fry was killed on State Highway 1 early last Thursday morning.

The Nissan car believed to be involved was found nearby, burnt out with its number plates removed and serial numbers filed down.

A 25-year-old Invercargill man appeared in court on Wednesday on the perversion charge and was remanded to reappear on Friday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie says he cannot discount the possibility of other people or vehicles being involved, or that there may be further arrests or charges in relation to the crash.
