A woman has been charged with killing a 29-year-old man found dead with what appears to be stab wounds to his chest in a Gisborne house.
Police say Douglas Leslie Tupaea was found dead at the Stout St house in the suburb of Mangapapa, at about 6am on Saturday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Scott said it appears Mr Tupaea suffered stab wounds to his chest but the exact cause of death would not be known until after a post-mortem was carried out on Sunday.
Police say Mr Tupaea and the 28-year-old woman charged with his murder are known to each other.
The woman is in custody and is due to appear in the Gisborne District Court on Monday.
The scene is being examined and the police still want to speak to a number of people who were in the house at the time of the incident.
