Appeals to the Environment Court over a West Coast hydro dam project are to be put on hold.
Meridian Energy and the Department of Conservation have agreed to delay an appeal hearing so they can hold more talks about the scheme.
Meridian's plan to flood the Moikhinui river valley in Buller and build an 85-metre high dam was approved by resource commissioners this year.
Meridian needs DoC's approval to build the dam on conservation land.
Both parties deny any deal is being discussed. DoC says it is prepared to hold talks, but its opposition to the scheme is unchanged.
Meridian says it wants to find a way to address the department's concerns.
