Gunpoint robbery of more than 50 icecreams

7:08 pm on 30 May 2010

A group of five young people have robbed a West Auckland takeaway shop at gunpoint, making off with more than 50 icecreams.

Security footage shows them going into the Ranui Food Bar and Takeaway store armed with a hammer, a knife and a firearm at 8.40pm on Saturday.

Police say the youths yelled at the three staff to let them get into the till to get money.

They say the group were unable to get into the till but stole between 50 and 70 icecreams.

The robbers were wearing hoodies and trying to cover their faces, but security camera footage shows glimpses of what they look like.

Police are calling on the public to contact them if they see anyone they recognise from the footage, that has been shown on TV and in newspapers.

They say that while the owner of the store believes some of the gang were responsible for a previous robbery the police have not confirmed that.
