Police say a motorist killed in a car crash near Taneatua in eastern Bay of Plenty was disqualified from holding a driver's licence.
Kari Hauwaho, who was 42, was taken to Whakatane Hospital but died of his injuries.
Sergeant Ray Wylie says ienquiries indicate Mr Hauwaho had a pre-existing medical condition.
The Whakatane police serious crash unit is investigating the cause of the crash, which happened at about 2am on Sunday. The matter has also been referred to the coroner.
