Residents to fight eviction

9:48 pm on 2 June 2010

Residents of Little Waihi in the Bay of Plenty were meeting on Wednesday night to prepare to fight against their eviction.

Te Arawa Management, the commercial arm of Te Arawa Lakes Trust, has told many of its lessees in the coastal township that they have to leave because their dwellings are sub-standard and threaten the health of the neighbouring estuary.

Long-time resident Jack Elsworth told Waatea News the move is premature as a sewage scheme due to be built next year will remove any threat.

He said the flounders are still there and so are healthy pipi.

Little Waihi residents are to put their case to Te Arawa Trust board at a special hui on Sunday week.
