Matariki being marked by exhibitions

8:06 pm on 9 June 2010

A Maori artists collective in Canterbury is marking Matariki with two group exhibitions focusing on tradition.

Kohinga Toi is exhibiting Pu Harakeke at Our City O-Tautahi Gallery in Christchurch.

A second show, Te Pataka, at the Little River Gallery on Banks Peninsula, focuses on traditional food gathering practices.

Christchurch City Council Maori arts adviser Paula Rigby says Matariki was a time pataka (storehouses) would be full of kai.
