A Hawke's Bay lawyer has voluntarily surrendered his practising certificate while his firm's trust accounts are being investigated.
The lawyer, Gerald McKay, is a co-founder of the firm McKay Hill, which has operated since 1985.
A Law Society spokesperson, Jonathan Krebs, says that as a result of information received, the society inspected the firm's trust account. Apparent irregularities were found and its trust fund for clients was frozen.
Mr Krebs won't specify the amount involved until the matter is investigated further.
He says matters have been arranged so that the firm can continue to operate under the supervision of an attorney.
