Cambridge man arrested on firearms charges

A Cambridge man police say had 222 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle, was arrested after being pulled over at a checkpoint in south Waikato on Tuesday.

Police say they at first found three firearms and ammunition lying in the back of the ute the man was driving.

After speaking briefly to the officers at the checkpoint, at Arapuni, the driver sped off. He was then stopped by road spikes.

The police say a total of five firearms was eventually found in the vehicle, as well as the ammunition.

A 38-year-old-man will appear in the Tokoroa District Court next week on firearms charges as well as failing to stop and reckless driving.
