Most adventure activities safe, says Outdoors NZ

Outdoors New Zealand says most adventure activities have excellent safety systems, but there is room for improvement at some operations.

The director of adventure tourism company Crag Adventures was found guilty in the High Court at Palmerston North on Thursday of manslaughter.

Catherine Peters, 18, fell to her death from a bridge in Manawatu in March 2008, in an activity run by Crag Adventures.

Outdoors NZ says the number of incidents in the adventure activity industry is very low, compared with the number of participants.

However, chief executive Paul Chaplow says external audits by independent industry experts should become compulsory.
