'Political busker' banned from city mall

A self-titled "political busker" has been banned from a part of Wellington that he says is his workplace.

Benjamin Easton appeared in the Wellington District Court on Wednesday on three charges, including possession of an offensive weapon and intentional damage.

The charges arose from an incident on Tuesday when Mr Easton was seen using a sledgehammer to attack the bitumen on Victoria St in the central city.

He was remanded on bail to reappear in court on Friday, on condition that among other things he stay out of Manners Mall.

He objected to that condition, saying that the mall is where he works as a political busker and that all his files are in an internet cafe there.
