A 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm after a serious assault in Foxton on Thursday night.
An 18-year-old man has had knee surgery and is in a stable condition in Palmerston North hospital.
Police say there is some suggestion the weapon used in the assault was an axe or tomahawk.
The 44-year-old will appear in Levin District Court on Saturday.
