Police are carrying out a forensic examination at the scene of a fatal house fire in Auckland's North Shore, trying to find out how the blaze started.

The fire service was called out to the fire in View Road, in Wairau Valley in Glenfield at about 7.30pm on Saturday.

One person was found dead, and another is in Middlemore Hospital being treated for burns.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby says the police were at the property on Sunday investigating the death and interviewing neighbours.

Mr Libby says they have not yet confirmed the identity of the dead person.

He says they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the fire.
