Allegation about off-duty constable being investigated

3:02 pm on 2 July 2010

Auckland police are looking into an allegation that an off-duty constable used his authority to get under-aged people into a bar.

The incident allegedly occurred at a 21st birthday party at the Grange bar and restaurant in Takapuna last Saturday night.

A police patrol car was flagged down at about 11.30pm by a bouncer who complained about the constable.

Police say they've heard two very different versions about what happened, because the officer in question claims that even though the Grange's restaurant licence allows under-aged people inside - provided they're accompanied by an adult - people were still being turned away.

The constable had not been drinking, police say, and was co-operative when spoken to by fellow officers.
