Name suppression lapses in murder case

9:33 pm on 2 July 2010

Name suppression has lapsed for two men charged with murdering a man in Wellington in May.

Fred Pokoati, 23, and Jarrad Townley, 22, appeared in the Wellington District Court on Thursday charged with murdering a 45-year-old man, whose name is suppressed.

The man was seriously assaulted in central Wellington last October, never regained consciousness and died on 17 May this year.

Charged with murdering him on that day, Mr Pokoati and Mr Townley have been remanded in custody to reappear in court on 19 August.

The two men were originally arrested in October on assault charges and have been in custody since then.
