Organisers of this year's Queenstown Winter Festival are optimistic numbers were well above previous years.

The festival ended on Sunday, following 10 days and 60 events celebrating the arrival of winter in Queenstown.

Event director Simon Green says a full economic impact study is underway - the first for five years.

He says data from the previous study, shows between $17 - $20 million going into the Queenstown economy, with over 30,000 people attending the event.

This year, he says, numbers felt bigger, but he will not know how much until the data is analysed.

The winter festival is now in its 36th year.
