Police seek public's help in Feilding homicide inquiry

3:37 pm on 11 July 2010

Police say they want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious behaviour in the Feilding area where a farmer was shot dead.

They say the close-knit rural Manawatu community is in shock after the killing of Scott Guy, 31, whose body was found on his driveway in Aorangi Road on Thursday morning.

A post-mortem revealed he had been shot, and a homicide investigation has begun. Police are interested in any information, including burglaries of farm equipment in the district.

Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger says she understands Mr Scott's family and the community have many questions the police cannot answer yet.

She says 20 officers and forensic experts will continue to examine the scene and nearby areas during the next couple of days.

Mr Guy leaves behind his wife, who is pregnant with the couple's second child.

Support offered to family

Federated Farmers has extended its support to the family. Manawatu dairy chairman Robert Ervine says the death is a tragedy.

He says most farmers have had people come onto their properties uninvited, and living in the rural community means people are isolated and exposed.

The Guy family has been involved in dairying in the area for 90 years.
