Slaying of farmer seen as rural reminder about vigilance

1:15 pm on 13 July 2010

Federated Farmers says the killing of a Feilding man has reminded the rural community to be vigilant about security.

Scott Guy, 31, was found shot dead in his driveway on Thursday morning.

Manawatu-Rangitikei Federated Farmers president Gordon McKellar, says thefts in rural areas are always an issue, but it's a shock someone was carrying a gun they were prepared to use.

Mr McKellar says the community would feel safer if the killer was caught.

Cordons around Mr Guy's property have now been lifted following a scene examination. The shotgun has not yet been found.

However, his family say it will be some time before his pregnant wife and two year old son can return home.

Police say they have not been able to establish a motive for the killing.

They are asking people to search their memories for someone who was not at home in bed on Thursday morning, or who has been acting strangely.
