A play about a lecture tour of New Zealand by American writer Samuel Clements, better known as Mark Twain in 1985, is back for a repeat season in Wellington.

Waatea News reports Taki Rua's production of Mark Twain and Me in Maoriland is back for a repeat, revised season at Downstage, after a run at the New Zealand Arts Festival earlier this year.

Artistic director James Ashcroft, says writer David Geary was inspired by the story of Twain calling for the destruction of a monument in Whanganui which honours Maori who fought on the side of the Crown, because it encouraged them to become traitors to their own race.
