Extra flights to Wanaka

6:13 am on 14 July 2010

Air New Zealand is to increase the number of flights in and out of Wanaka by 40%.

The additional flights will be trialled for six months, but Lake Wanaka Tourism says the increased capacity is badly needed.

General manager James Helmore says local business leaders and tourism bosses have lobbied hard for the extra flights.

The additional services will be operated by Eagle Air, a subsidiary of Air New Zealand, out of Christchurch airport.

Currently it operates one return flight Monday to Saturday, with two return flights on Sunday.

Under the new schedule there will be two return flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and one return flight on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
