DHB censures board member again

Whanganui District Health Board has censured an outspoken board member for a second time after he questioned the safety of hospital services.

But surgeon Clive Solomon says the new censure won't stop him speaking out.

In 2007 the board censured Dr Solomon for raising public concerns about a possible merger with another board.

In March this year, Dr Solomon questioned the safety of Whanganui hospital's radiologist after comments that he had the workload of three doctors.

At a meeting on Friday, the board voted unanimously to censure Mr Solomon for speaking out.

Chair Kate Joblin says Dr Solomon needs to change the way he operates.

But Dr Solomon says the board is trying to shoot the messenger instead of dealing with the issues he raises.

He says he will complain to the Auditor-General if his concerns are not properly addressed.
