The main polluters of the Manawatu River are to make a committment next month to cleaning it up.
An accord has been finalised this week to work towards reducing the level of waste poured into it.
Months of meetings by a select group of industry representatives, including Fonterra, farming, community and environmental groups.
The Cawthron Institute issued a report late last year showing health of the Manawatu River was very poor, on an international scale.
Group chair Richard Thompson says an action plan will be developed to improve the river.
