Roadblocks, search in Feilding farmer death inquiry

9:45 pm on 15 July 2010

Police investigating the killing of Feilding farmer Scott Guy stopped more than 200 vehicles on Thursday morning, seeking possible witnesses to the shooting.

Mr Guy, who was 31, was shot dead at the end of his driveway on Aorangi Rd South, east of the town, early last Thursday morning. A post-mortem showed he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

About 80 of the motorists stopped at five roadblocks were identified as possibly having been in the area at that time, and were asked whether they remember seeing anything suspicious. Police are going through that information now.

The inquiry head, Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger, says she's disappointed in the limited public response so far, and thinks it may be because people are scared to come forward.

She told Morning Report the roadblocks were all at points where there's access to Mr Guy's home.

Police also unsuccessfully searched roadsides and drains in Aorangi Rd and neighbouring roads for a shotgun.

Twenty police are investigating the homicide, for which a motive is yet to be established.
