Alleged hit-and-run driver found

9:45 pm on 16 July 2010

Police have caught up with a driver allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident as he pulled into the driveway of the Prime Minister's electorate office in Auckland.

They say the man was driving his van along State Highway 16 in Kumeu at 7.20pm on Thursday when he hit another man as he was getting into his parked car.

Sergeant Stu Kearns says police caught up with the driver about an hour later, when he pulled into the driveway at John Key's electorate office.

Mr Kearns says the man turned in there as a matter of course, and has no connection with the Prime Minister.

He says the man who was hit is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
