Nine staff at Whanganui hospital are to lose their jobs as a cost-cutting measure.
The district health board's chief executive, Julie Patterson, says it is very reluctant to make people redundant, but like any business it has to live within its means.
She says some of the staff have been offered redeployment to existing vacancies.
Staff made more than 200 submissions in consultations which began in May.
A spokesperson says eight of the nine positions are administrative, and one is a health promotion role.
