Fatal crash on North Western motorway

9:51 pm on 24 July 2010

Police asked drivers in Auckland to avoid the North-Western motorway after a multi-car crash which left one person dead and closed several lanes, causing considerable disruption on Saturday night.

A police spokesperson said the accident happened at 8.37pm and involved at least four cars.

The spokesperson said witnesses report seeing a car travelling the wrong way in the westbound lanes before the crash.

The North-Western Motorway was closed on Saturday night westbound from the Rosebank and Patiki Road interchanges.

Police said debris was blocking all lanes and the scene was expected to take some hours to clear.
